How to the dishevelled bun at Dion Lee. Everyday beauty should be made easy and unfussy, should hint to femininity and effortlessness, should feel simple and refined, a mix of qualities that seem to thoroughly describe the gorgeous hairstyle spotted at Dion Lee autumn / winter 2015. The dishevelled bun created by Australian Redken Hair Director, Jon Pulitano, added a lawless edge to the collection with its alluring tough-meets-delicate feel.
Making for the perfect style to help transition your looks from day to night, this undone bun with soft, fly-away texture is about as easy to recreate as it is beautiful.
Start building the hairstyle on a dry hair foundation. To achieve the desired texture and a hint of volume, apply a root lifting product from roots to ends, spraying generously. Jon Pulitano recommends using Redken’s Rootful 06 Root Lifting Spray.
Proceed to blow-dry the product into your hair, using your hands to gently comb through your locks, in order to ensure that it will come to be completely dry.
Keep building towards achieving that soft fly-away, dishevelled texture by applying a dry-shampoo product and a light sprinkle of mattifying hair powder onto your locks.
For added grip and texture, mist the ends of the hair with a mild control hairspray, much like Redken’s Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray.
Using nothing but your hands, comb the hair into a low ponytail. Avoid brushing the hair with a comb in order to maintain a ruffled, messy texture on the roots.
Proceed to twist the hair around the base of the ponytail until forming a loose bun. Make sure to leave the ends out below the nape of the neck and secure the bun with an elastic wrapped over and around.
If necessary, you can further secure the style with a few extra pins but in order to maintain the bun’s organic feel, avoid adding too many pins.
Press on to create a messier look by gently tugging at the bun. Using your fingers, tease the hair along the top of the head to create a subtle ‘fly-away halo’.
Finish off with a light spray of medium control aerosol spray, making sure to apply the product from a distance in order to maintain that organic, dry fly-away texture throughout the hair.
